IV.15 How many courses does a public prosecutor have to attend annually?
To become assessors the apprentices have to attend
courses for three years. This is mandatory and the courses are usually
organized once a week. The subjects taught are: criminal law, criminal
procedure, civil law and procedure, administrative law, commercial law, organisation
of criminal justice and European law, forensic science, psychology, psychiatry and
forensic medicine.
Assessors and public prosecutors are not officially obliged to attend courses regularly but they are expected to participate in training when it is organized by their unit, the Ministry of Justice or other entities and they may be even designated by principals to take part in a certain training. The courses are given not only in the field of criminal law and procedure but also on European law, forensic science, psychology, etc. Some training is provided for developing practical skills as well.
In the Ministry of Justice there is a separate department for training. A central school for the members of the public prosecution service and judiciary is also being created inKrakow .
