Questionnaire Latvia
IV.15 How many courses does a public prosecutor have to attend annually?
At present a systematic and cyclic training for
public prosecutors does not take place, no special institution is set up for
their further education. Public prosecutors are not obliged to attend training
courses. The Office of the Prosecutor organises the in-house education and efficiency
courses for public prosecutors, as well as abroad by their own human resources
or inviting specialists from other countries but this training is not
permanent. Those public prosecutors who express such a wish may involve in
projects of further education outside the Prosecutor’s office independently and
undertake other activities to improve their skills (attendance of courses,
master or doctoral studies at faculties of law). Presently the perfection of
further education for prosecutors is taking place. Its first step is the wish
to provide training (duration one to two weeks) for candidates to the
prosecutor’s office that will be implemented by Training Centre for Judges.
