Questionnaire Ireland

IV.15 How many courses does a public prosecutor have to attend annually?

There is no statutory requirement. However, the professional bodies (Kings Inns and the Law Society of Ireland) have introduced a requirement whereby its practising members are expected to accumulate a number of continuing professional education points over a number of years. This is normally achieved by attending certain lectures on courses provided by the professions or the university law schools. Solicitors or barristers working as public prosecutors are subject to this requirement to the same extent as lawyers in private practice.
