IV.11 Does a continuing training program for public prosecutors exist?
Public prosecutors will normally have qualified as
a solicitor or a barrister in the same manner as any other solicitor or
barrister working in private practice in Ireland . This means that they will
have undertaken the professional legal education and exams set by one or other
of the professional legal bodies namely, Kings Inns or the Law Society of Ireland.
There is no separate or additional entrance exam or educational programme for
public prosecutors.
Within the office of DPP there is a dedicated Training Unit, headed up by a Training Officer. This Unit has responsibility for overseeing the training and development needs of the DPP’s office. This includes in-house training programmes and facilitating attendance at external conferences and programmes for existing staff.
