I.14 Does the prosecution service have the power to decide on the scope of the police investigation?
Yes. The
investigation shall be conducted within the shortest possible period and
concluded within two months following its order or start. If justified by the
complexity of the case or an insurmountable obstacle, the deadline of the
investigation may be extended by two months by the prosecutor, and after the
lapse of that deadline, by the county prosecutor general up to the lapse of one year from the commencement
of the criminal proceedings.
After one year, the deadline of the investigation may be extended by the Prosecutor General. If the investigation is conducted against a specific person, the extension may not be longer than two years following the first hearing/questioning of the suspect.
