III.8 Who appoints the highest official in the prosecution service?

In the Federation, the Federal President appoints the Federal Prosecutor General on a proposal of the Federal Minister of Justice with the consent of the Federal Council (Bundesrat, second chamber of Federal Parliament). In the States, appointment is regulated by State law. In the State of Northrhine-Westphalia, for example, Prosecutors General will be appointed by the State government.
