Questionnaire England/Wales
IV.11 Does a continuing training program for public prosecutors exist?
Yes, of sorts. All CPS staff have a wide range of
learning and development opportunities available to them on a needs basis. Most
opportunities are voluntary but there are some compulsory events (such as
induction). Voluntary training interventions are requested following a
discussion between individual prosecutors and their managers and may seek to
improve performance, assist with managing change or develop careers.
All lawyers are required to undertake a minimum number of continuing professional development (CPD) hours each year in order to retain their professional membership. This currently stands at 16 hours for solicitors and 12 hours for barristers.
