Questionnaire Denmark
III.10 May he be reappointed?
The Attorney General is appointed permanently, i.e.
to the retirement age of 70 laid down by sect. 29 Civil Servants Act. The
retirement age of 70 covers all academically trained civil servants, whereas
other civil servants may retire earlier (policemen at the age of 63). It is,
though, by law possible to appoint a civil servant for a fixed limited number
or years, reappointment being possible (except judges and the senior assistants
of judges, who can only be appointed permanently, sect. 34 Civil Servants Act).
However, in practice, prosecutors, including the Attorney General, have only
been appointed permanently.
