III.6 Where does the service get its funding from?

The police and the prosecution service have a combined budget, which is part of the combined budget of the Ministry of Justice. The prosecution service does not have a separate budget, and subdivisions of the budget cover the Attorney General’s office and those of the regional prosecutors. The prosecutorial work of the Chief Constables, the Deputy Chief Constables, and the Assistant Chief Constables and their police work is organised in such a way that it is impossible to separate one from the other when trying to assess the financing of the various activities. However, as the number of the legal staff of the police forces is fixed by law, and as the salary of those officials is also fixed by law, it is possible, though in practice complicated, to distinguish the part of the police budget earmarked for the prosecution service.
