II.15 Can the executive influence the prosecution service through its budget?
Theoretically speaking yes, e.g. were the executive
suddenly to cut the budget of the prosecution service, the service would need
to adjust its work to the changing conditions. But this is no practical risk.
In practice, prosecutors have, to my view rightly, complained that when Folketinget
allocates more money to the police, the budget of the prosecution service ought
to be correspondingly increased, otherwise there are too few officials to
prosecute the larger number of criminals caught by the police (also more money
ought to be granted to the judiciary, otherwise there are too few judges to try
the increasing number of new cases sent in).
