Questionnaire Austria

IV.15 How many courses does a public prosecutor have to attend annually?

The continuing training is mainly given by the Ministry of Justice, the Courts of Appeal and the Association of Judges.
The Ministry of Justice every year publishes a brochure containing the current program of courses and seminars for judges and prosecutors as well as candidates for these positions (see www.bmj.gv.at/_cms_ upload/_docs/fortb2004_2005.pdf).
For public prosecutors and judges these courses are not mandatory. This training program is just an offer. The courses want to improve legal knowledge as well as professional skills. Courses for instance are given on specific legal areas, laws, different types of crime, criminal procedure, international cooperation, current legal practice of the Supreme Court, communication techniques, daily professional cooperation, computer applications, registers, group supervision, judicial behaviour or foreign languages.
